I Ching should be consulted with respect, as it is supposed to contain all the wisdom of the East. I Ching talks about this in 64 hexagrams, which you can consult and get guidance on.. well, actually anything! I Ching is an oracle, a book of wisdom, in which the predictions try to support actions perceived as ideal or desirable. The ethics and understanding of right actions, which are encouraged through I Ching, are characterized by the work's origins in Taoism, Confucianism and Eastern thought. The basic elements of I Ching are 64 hexagrams. There are 64 possible combinations of six lines, which can either be a dotted line, which symbolized the female and passive force Yin and the answer "No" - or a solid line, which symbolized the male and outgoing force Yang and the answer "Yes". The individual lines of the hexagram are either stable or unstable - and an unstable line represents a line that moves towards its opposite line. This means that for every hexagram there is a shadow hexagram, which is the hexagram that appears when all the unstable lines are turned to their opposites. This shadow hexagram represents the situation you are moving towards. For the interpretation, the description and image that the Book of Changes links to the hexagram are used, as well as the interpretation of the individual lines of the hexagram and its shadow hexagram. The answer above is a concentrate of what the hexagram advises you to do. The full meaning can be found in the Book of Changes (Zhou Yi), where the 64 hexagrams are described. It is through the intuitive interpretation of the individual hexagram that I Ching provides the opportunity to learn to act correctly and wisely in life's situations.
