Eight Compass Directions| BaZi

THE EIGHT DIRECTIONS

The eight compass directions cover each type of Chi energy, four of which are favorable and four of which are unfavorable. It is individual for the individual person which compass directions the individual energies come from. This depends on the individual’s number, which is calculated from the time of birth.

bazhai-fengshui - 03-a-2

If you do important things in the areas that best support those tasks, the Feng Shui energies will help you and you will find it easier to achieve results and progress – while on the other hand you should avoid doing important things in the areas of the home where the energies oppose your efforts.

This is what Feng Shui would like to help you with. By following the rules of Feng Shui, you can support the wishes you have about how your person and your life would be if it were absolutely perfect.

To find out which areas apply to you, you need to calculate your Kua number. From here you can see which compass directions are favorable/unfavourable for you. You can transfer these compass directions to your home and from here get help and guidance on how Feng Shui believes you can optimize your home, thereby improving your health, career, sex life, even how to become happier and happier.

Step 1
Calculate Kuatal

The first thing you need to do is calculate the Kuatal.

If you want to do the math yourself, the form is: A). Take the last two digits of your year of birth. B). Put them together. If you get a two digit number, take the cross sum of this number. C). If you are a woman, add 5 to this number – if the result is higher than nine, take the cross sum. D). If you are a man, subtract the number from 10. Kuatal 5 is for men = 2 and for women = 8.

You can also use our Kua number calculator, which calculates your Kua number completely automatically.

Step 2
Find your good and bad
compass directions

Once you have found your Kuatal, you must find which four favorable and which four unfavorable compass directions are associated with your Kuatal.

You should make it easy for the good energies to reach you by, for example, sleeping with your head in one of these four compass directions, or by placing your desk and PC so that they face one of these four directions, or by working so that you face one of these four directions, etc.

COMPASS DIRECTION
SHENG CHI

Sheng Chi means “creation of breath” and is one of the four auspicious compass directions. It is from this direction, and in the areas that this direction covers in your home, that you receive good energy that helps attract great prosperity, wealth and happiness. Since this is positive energy that helps you, you need to make it easy for this energy to come to you.

In fact, you should actually encourage, attract the energy to come to you. And on the other hand, you need to protect the Sheng Chi energy that is already in your home. In general, the Sheng Chi area, like the other three auspicious areas, should be neat, tidy and clean to promote the energies.

OPTIMAL SHENG CHI

  • Position your desk and computer so they face this direction.
  • Work so that you meet this road.
  • The main door faces this way.
  • Your bedroom and study are in this part of the house.
  • If you sleep with your head turned this way, you will attract the welfare energies while you sleep.
  • In the part of the home where the Sheng Chi energy is located, place an aquarium with 2 goldfish and 1 black fish, or 6 gold and 1 black fish. By the way, you shouldn’t be sad when one of the fish dies. This is simply considered to be an expression that the fish has absorbed bad energy that came your way. However, replace the fish with a new one as soon as possible.
  • A statue of a laughing Buddha.
  • All welfare symbols strengthen the area. For example, a small bowl of money. A popular feng shui remedy used to attract wealth is a frog. Preferably a “feng shui” frog designed so that a coin can be placed in its mouth.
  • A model ship – preferably richly decorated with gold and glitter – coming sailing FROM this direction will be reinforced.
  • Generally speaking, a number of animals are considered in Feng Shui – especially the five animals; the dragon, tiger, phoenix, turtle and snake – too auspicious and are favorite motifs often found in Chinese paintings, vases and sculptures. To stimulate the Sheng Chi energy, the red dragon and the bird the bird are particularly effective, so it is recommended to decorate with these two auspicious figures in the part of the home where the Sheng Chi energy is located.< /span>
  • Bamboo sticks in water that are allowed to take root and grow will strengthen the elements “Water”, “Wood”, “Air”, which will help create harmony in the area to the delight of Sheng Chi.
  • Red color is good in this area. This for walls, decorations, furniture, floors, lights etc.
  • You can hang a Pa Kua to protect the area just as you can place a unicorn in the area to protect your welfare.
  • Fresh flowers are also always good in the four favorable areas. Silk flowers can also be used. Avoid dried flowers.

COMPASS DIRECTION
FU WAI

Fu Wai means “overall harmony” and is one of the four auspicious compass directions. It is from this direction, and in the areas this direction covers in your home, that you get good energy that helps to create calm. The Fu Wai area is favorable in terms of getting public access and enjoying a comfortable existence. The area offers good luck and strong protection against adverse fate.

Since this is positive energy that helps you, you need to make it easy for this energy to come to you. Yes, in fact you should actually encourage, attract the energy to come to you. And partly you need to protect the Fu Wai energy that is already in your home.

OPTIMAL FU WEI

  • Use Fu Wai by demoting major disagreements, discussions to be played in this area.
  • Then position the desktop in this direction.
  • Then work in this direction.
  • your front door faces this way.
  • Your bedroom and study are in this part of the house.
  • You sleep with your head turned this way.
  • A statue of a laughing Buddha facing Fu Wai.
  • A Pa Kua will protect the area.
  • A unicorn in the area to protect against adverse fate.
  • Fresh flowers are also always good in the four favorable areas. Silk flowers can also be used. Avoid dried flowers.

COMPASS DIRECTION
TEN YI

Tien Yi means “doctor from heaven” and is one of the four auspicious directions of the compass. It is from this direction, and in the areas this direction covers in your home, that you get good energy that helps ensure your health and your physical health.

The areas of the home where the Tien Yi energy resides are the best areas for those members of the household who are ill or suffering from health problems. Since this is positive energy that helps you, you need to make it easy for this energy to come to you. Yes, in fact you should actually encourage, attract the energy to come to you.

OPTIMAL TI YI

  • Place the furnace with its energy source – the opening – in the Tien Yi direction. So not in front of the stove. It is the entrance where it is fed with gas or electricity that should turn this direction.
  • Water elements of all shades such as aquarium, indoor fountain, etc. will increase health in this section – but not with sewage coming to flush out the energy.
  • Also pictures, illustrations of water will stimulate. So it doesn’t necessarily have to be actual water.
  • Illustrations and figures of the white tiger.
  • Crystals in all shades will promote good health and ensure quick recovery after illness.
  • Your good health is maintained if you sleep in this area, especially if you sleep with your head in that direction.< / span>
  • To protect the area, some brass Kei coins can be placed in the area. Remember to tie these together with some red string, as this is what activates the energy. Without the common thread, the Kei coins seem to be limited.
  • Using the dragon in decoration in this area also provides protection.
  • The energy in this sector is stimulated by earthy colors, so use these in furniture, decorations, wall colors, etc.
  • Fresh flowers are also always good in the four favorable areas. Silk flowers can also be used. Avoid dried flowers.

COMPASS DIRECTION
NINE YEN

Nien Yen means “long life with many descendants” and is one of the four auspicious compass directions. This is the best area for promoting the quality of home life and family relationships – between husband and wife, parents and children, and between siblings. The more you use this part of the house, the more activity you will get in your social life.

OPTIMAL NINE YEN

  • You can reinforce the activity in the section by hanging a bell. Preferably one with a bit of metal and brass that moves like, for example, an old Bornholmer clock.
  • Other metal things that move or are designed to move will also work.
  • You often see “wind chimes” used for this purpose.
  • If your bedroom is in this area, it will ensure strong family relationships.
  • You can e.g. alleviate marital problems by placing their bed in the Nien Yen area. The effect will be optimal if the head turns in that direction while you sleep.
  • Avoid having a toilet in this area. If the home has more than one toilet, use the one furthest from this area. However, be careful not to weaken any of the other three favorable areas.
  • Using earth colors will stimulate the area, just as using the earth itself will promote earth energy.
  • Fire also works well in this area. If there isn’t exactly room for a fireplace, candles also work.
  • A laughing Buddha figure in this area – – preferably placed so that the Buddah faces this Nien Yen direction – ensures good relationships with friends and family.
  • And a pair of mandarin ducks placed next to a photo of your spouse, partner or future partner will help improve the relationship and secure / attract the love between you.
  • Especially in this area in general you should pay attention to having two elements of as many of your items as possible. Two identical jars, two identical chairs, two identical pillows, etc.
  • Fresh flowers are also always good in the four favorable areas. Silk flowers can also be used. Avoid dried flowers.
  • If you are single and want a partner, you can place an aquarium in this area to increase your chances of marriage. Fish symbols and illustrations will also stimulate

CHUEH MING

This is the worst of the eight areas and you should do everything you can to avoid placing your front door or bedroom in this section. Adversity manifests itself in its most severe versions – the symptoms are loss of children, loss of wealth and or very serious illnesses.

Where in the favorable areas it is necessary to encourage and attract the energies, the opposite applies to the unfavorable areas. Here you have to protect yourself from the bad energies. Partly by making sure that they do not enter your home and partly by making sure to regularly cleanse the home of any bad energies that have escaped anyway.

If you do the important things in your life in the areas, the rooms, that best support these activities, the Feng Shui energies will help you and you will have an easier time achieving results and progress – while on the other hand you should avoid doing important things in your life, in those areas of the home where the energies oppose your efforts.

Therefore, in general, avoid spending too much time, or doing important tasks, in the areas of your home covered by the four unfavorable compass directions.

  • One can suppress the unfavorable Chueh Ming energy by placing a toilet or bath in this section.</span &gt ;< /li>
  • Furthermore, a kitchen can be advantageously placed here, but you must remember that the oven must face in a favorable direction.&lt ; / span>
  • A Bagua with a small round mirror in the middle can be advantageously hung in a window that may face this compass direction. This ensures that the energy does not enter your home.
  • Use crystals in this area to absorb the energies. Possibly have a small place where you put a bunch of crystals or stones. Remember to clean or replace stones and crystals regularly.

LUI SHA

Lui Sha means “six murders“. As the name suggests, this area means serious harm to you and your family. It also symbolizes wasted opportunities at work and in business. Lui Sha causes legal entanglements, illness, accidents and, in the worst case, death.

  • One can suppress the unfavorable Lui Sha energy by placing a toilet or bathroom in this section. But remember that what is important is where the drain is located. This is where the energies are flushed out. So there is no need to move the entire kitchen or bathroom to this part. As long as the drain is here, it’s fine.
  • You can also leave this section unused by placing your storage space here.
  • A Bagua with a small round mirror in the middle can be advantageously hung in a window that may face this compass direction. They will ensure that the energy does not enter your home.
  • Use crystals in this area to absorb the energies. Possibly have a small place where you put a bunch of crystals or stones. Remember to regularly cleanse your stones and crystals of accumulated energy.
  • Since Lui Sha also gives wasted opportunities at work and in business life, it is a good idea to focus on remedies such as promotion and strengthen your company, your career.

kua direction compass

WU KWAI

Wu Kwei means “five ghosts“. This area creates the kind of adversity that results in fire, theft, loss of income and loss of work. It also causes arguments and misunderstandings between family members and between you and your colleagues and friends. Wu Kwai causes accidents at home and at work.

  • You can subdue the five ghosts by placing a toilet in this area, thereby flushing them down the toilet.
This ensures that the energy does not enter your home.
  • Use crystals in this area to absorb the energies. Possibly have a small place where you put a bunch of crystals or stones. Remember to clean stones and crystals regularly.
  • Since Wu Kwai Wu causes accidents at home and at work, it is a very bad idea to have a workshop or other equipment that can be dangerous in this area.

kua direction compass

HO HAI
Ho Hai means “misfortune and bad luck“. This area brings financial losses and all kinds of temporary difficulties and frustrations. However, it is the least inauspicious of the four inauspicious areas.

  • Since Ho Hai particularly affects your finances unfavorably, in this area you can advantageously use the means that protect your well-being – for example a figure or picture of a unicorn, or a picture of a peacock, believed to promote well-being.
  • You can suppress the Ho Hai energy by placing a toilet in this area, thereby flushing it into the toilet. But remember that what is important is where the drain is. You can also leave this section unused by placing your repository here.
  • A Pa-Kua with a small round mirror in the ID can be advantageously hung in a window possibly facing this compass direction . They will ensure that the energy does not enter your home.
  • Use crystals in this area to absorb the energies.

Step 3
Transfer directions
to your residence

Once you have found your four favorable and four unfavorable compass directions, you can transfer these to areas of your home. This is done by placing a compass on top of the home’s floor plan. If you don’t have a compass handy, you can use tracing paper on which you have drawn the eight compass directions.

The first layer, the floor plan for your home, is positioned so that your front door opening faces south. The second layer, the tracing paper, is placed so that north faces north, south must face south, etc.

BaZi | Bagua

Imagine that the floor plan in the illustration above matched the floor plan of your home. Furthermore, imagine that your Kuatal is four. Your four favorable directions will thus be north, south-east, south and east. Your four inauspicious directions would be northeast, west, southwest, and northwest.

This would mean that your Sheng Chi direction (north of room 4) would cover the hallway, a bit of the kitchen and a bit of the living room – And that is definitely not favorable feng shui!

Sheng Chi is the best area for attracting great prosperity, wealth and happiness, and this area is hardly used. The area must be activated by activity in the area and people stay in the area as much as possible. You can also activate the area by placing feng shui remedies in the area that promote the favorable Sheng Chi energies.

It is completely wrong if there is a drain in the area of the kitchen covered by Sheng Chi. According to feng shui, this will wash out the good Sheng Chi energy, without benefiting the occupants of the home.

Since there is a separation between a sink and the drain itself, the problem can be solved by using a drain that is outside the Sheng Chi area.

For people with kuatal four, the compass direction is due to – northwest – Ho Hai, which is one of the four unlucky directions. If the drain could be placed in this area it would therefore help a lot. Instead of diverting the good Sheng Chi energy, it would then divert the bad Ho Hai energy instead.

If we continue our example and imagine that there is a home office in your Chueh Ming area – which in our example with room number 4 is in the northeast, i.e. the main part of the living room – it will be very difficult for the resident of the household who has room number four to succeed in anything business or academic at all from this position.

The energies will oppose effort and results will only be achieved with great effort.

A similar analysis can be made with regard to the other compass directions.

A comprehensive
correlation system !

In addition to the eight compass directions, each Kuatal is also associated with properties based on its association with different concepts. But it doesn’t stop here! Because the Kua numbers are also indirectly linked to the characteristics of the concepts they are linked to.

For example, the trigrams are linked to a family role, a season, an area of life, etc. – and these qualities are also linked to the individual kua numbers. Kua number 1 is therefore linked to the trigram Kan and thus also the family role «Other Son», the season «Winter», life area «Career» etc.

Your Kuatal can thus be the subject of a larger investigation into what type of home you are best at, how the home optimally faces the corner of the world, how the individual rooms are distributed in the home and much more. Since Kuatal is also associated with the twelve Chinese animal signs, it also opens up to the rules and regulations that apply here.

Your Kua number therefore determines – directly or indirectly – which Feng Shui rules apply to you.

Everything in feng shui is connected via an extensive correlation system. The starting point for the explanation here is Kuatals, but it could just as well have been something else that appeared first in the table – for example the trigrams, the compass directions, the eight areas of life, etc.

The individual sub-elements in feng shui are connected to each other across and what is linked to one sub-element is thus also indirectly linked to the other sub-elements.

In this way, Feng Shui is typically representative of Eastern thinking, where one does not distinguish so much between the various disciplines, but on the contrary seeks to include all aspects of life in order to create harmonious conditions for man.
